"Linux Bible, 2008 Edition: Boot up to Ubuntu, Fedora, KNOPPIX, Debian, openSUSE, and 11 Other Distributions"

More than the distribution it comes from, however, you will likely choose a particular bootable
Linux system because it contains a specialized set of tools (such as a security toolkit) or is built to
provide a specific function (such as playing multimedia). For example, tools that are included with
the BackTrack Network Security Suite live CD are focused on securing, checking, and recovering
computers and networks. BackTrack??™s menus are organized based on the security tools it provides.
Components in MoviX2 include those geared toward playing movies, music, and images.
Choosing a Bootable Linux
Whether you choose a bootable Linux to do a special job (security, multimedia playback, gaming,
and so on) or just to have a portable version of a Linux you are familiar with, several bootable Linux
distributions are included with this book that you can try out. For descriptions of those, and other
bootable Linux distros, I recommend you visit the following sites:
Knoppix Customizations??”The Knoppix Customizations page (www.knoppix.net/
wiki/Knoppix_Customizations) lists just under 100 distributions based on KNOPPIX.
LinuxLinks.com??”This site has a list of mini-distributions, many of which are
bootable Linux systems. The page that contains this list is www.
