"Linux Bible, 2008 Edition: Boot up to Ubuntu, Fedora, KNOPPIX, Debian, openSUSE, and 11 Other Distributions"

The CDs are as follows:
Desktop Install CD??”This boots directly to Ubuntu, where you can either experiment
with Ubuntu (without changing anything on your existing system) or install Ubuntu to a
hard drive. This is the equivalent of the live CD provided by many distributions, except that
it also provides an easy way to install Ubuntu Linux permanently if you decide to do so.
NOTE
450
Choosing and Installing a Linux Distribution Part III
Server Install CD??”Lets you install various server configurations, ranging from a basic
server to a standard LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/Perl) Web server.
Alternate Desktop CD??”Enables you to install an Ubuntu desktop system from the
command line in a more complex fashion than that provided by the Desktop CD??™s graphical
installer (such as using Logical Volume Management). It also supports OEM firms that
want to customize and ship Ubuntu-based systems, and provides a custom server installation
mechanism. It does not include the live CD.
Getting started with Ubuntu is easy because the Desktop Install CD boots to a fully functioning
desktop system. The Ubuntu Desktop Install CD does a great job at detecting hardware, setting up
your video card environment (mouse, keyboard, and video card), and booting right to a GNOME
desktop without changing anything on your existing system.
