In addition to the regular releases, Ubuntu also releases an LTS version for Long Term
Support for those who want reliability above features. The LTS version offers support for
three years on desktop versions and five years on server versions.
If you are new to Linux, Ubuntu is designed with you in mind. The standard Ubuntu desktop
installer provides a great set of defaults for most installation options. Ubuntu, however, also provides
other installers that include many more choices for customization when you install it. If you
are transitioning from Debian (or another Debian derivative, such as KNOPPIX), you will find it
easy to work with Ubuntu. You install and remove packages and manage services with Ubuntu
using the same methods as with Debian.
Beginning with the Dapper Drake release, the Ubuntu project offers each release as three different
CDs or a single DVD.
