Go forward from the Welcome screen.
4. Configure networking. Configure a connection on this page and click Forward. The
page also includes a Misc tab from which you can start the Secure Shell daemon (sshd)
and view loaded modules. You will see a partitioning screen.
5. Partition your hard disk. Choose which drive to install Gentoo on. Then choose either
of the following:
Choose the unallocated space??”Select the gray part of the disk bar and add the
partitions you want.
Choose the recommended layout??”Gentoo will recommend a partitioning layout
for your disk.
Create at least a 1GB swap partition and probably at least a 3GB or 4GB root (/) partition.
A 100MB /boot partition is also recommended. If you have extra space, assign it to the
root partition. You can delete partitions if you need more space, but first make sure to
back up any data you need.
6. Share your NFS connection. You can connect to another machine if it contains a
/usr/portage directory. The Stage screen appears after you click Forward.
7. Select the type of install. Choose Stage 3, GRP Install, and Dynamic if you want to do a
quick install from the Live CD (no network connection is required for this). As an alternative,
you can use other stage files. Click Forward to proceed to the Portage tree screen.
