least the user can assume they are going to learn something. Truly successful calls to
action are explicit. ???Learn more about the new version of our software,??? or ???Click here to
save 30 percent,??? or ???Download the special report right now??? all tell users where they are
going and what will happen when they get there (like in Figure 5-4). Again, the end goal of
the homepage is to ignite goal conversions. Even if the entire domain is constructed simply
for people to sign up for the newsletter, then make sure a premium slice of design such as
a billboard is serving that purpose directly.

It is common practice for companies to publish their latest news on their homepage. One
of the most important things a marketing department can do is create interest around the
business, and a tremendous amount of that is accomplished through strong public
relations.
