Designing a homepage is an exercise in discriminate puzzle solving. You have a list of possible
design elements, widgets, and marketing pieces that can eventually make an appearance.
Some are critical, others optional. All of them have a certain value.
Imagine a buffet where you get one plate to fill. Your plate represents your final design,
and the spread of food indicates all the various design elements you could heap onto the
dish. But only so much food can fit. At the risk of mixing metaphors, if you just scoop
every type of consumable onto the plate, your visitors will not be able to focus on a single
flavor or even process all of the content effectively.
