Linking to HTML site maps
Users should be able to access the site map from any point in the website. The link does
not have to be big or even obvious; many designers simply add a small text link in the
footer, while others call more attention to it in the header near or within the primary navigation.
Whatever the case, the link needs to be persistent across the entire domain. Again,
consider a book??”at any time, a reader might flip back to reference the table of contents.
In addition, a site map should be linked from the metadata of the site. In Chapter 3 we
covered navigation aids, which are special tags linking to important sections of the site.
The site map is one of those pages and is represented by the following bit of code:
href="http://www.yoursite.com/sitemap/" />
These links are important for visitors employing screen readers, and other browsers like
Opera and Mozilla can access them as well.

XML site maps for search engines
Traditionally, search engine robots crawl the Web and discover content organically, traveling
from site to site via hyperlinks and indexing content as they meander along.
