These links provide a way to instantly leap to different sections of a single document. The
most critical link is the one to skip navigation and go right to the content. Because menus
can be long and complex??”especially if they contain drop-downs??”screen reader users
appreciate being able to access the content without wading through a sea of links first.
These links are also valuable when accessing the Web on a mobile device. Because cell
phone and PDA screens are so small, there is often a gratuitous amount of scrolling that
gets done before the real content is reached. A single link at the beginning of the document
allows users to jump past all the riffraff.
