The Test Team and Its Context 185
9.7.8 Relations with Other Test Teams and Third-Party Suppliers
There are four possible sets of relations:
??? Your company is buying a product they are testing.
??? Their company is buying a product you are testing.
??? You have outsourced all or part of your testing to them.
??? They have outsourced all or part of the testing to you.
In all cases there are a few fundamental activities to be undertaken:
??? Understand each other??™s companies.
??? Identify contact points.
??? Identify reporting methods.
??? Share CVs (builds confidence), plans, process models (know what they??™re doing, where the weaknesses
are likely to be), standards (are they likely to keep to them?), tool details (to get some idea
of the rigor), and results.
??? Read the contract (preferably ensure it doesn??™t get signed without your approval).
??? Define the deliverables and the dates.
There is a big advantage in having their staff work alongside your staff for some months. It puts a brain
to a face and greatly increases confidence:

9.7.9 Relations with the Configuration Manager
The configuration manager doesn??™t want to have to:
??? Create builds every hour
??? Be constantly reviewing bugs and proposed changes.
So he has every interest in the best quality product. You are unlikely to be testing his work so he will
not be threatened by you.
