"Manage Software Testing"

This certificate provides visible evidence that the individual understands the
basics of software testing.
??? The Practitioner Certificate is for experienced testing practitioners. This certificate demonstrates
a depth of knowledge of testing topics and the ability to perform testing activities in practice.
Both syllabi focus mostly on testing with some reference to reviewing configuration management and
other quality concerns.
9.2.3 American Society for Quality (ASQ)
This has a Software Quality Engineer (CSQE) qualification by examination. The syllabus covers many aspects
of quality but little of it is directly concerned with testing. See www.asq.org/training-and-certification.html
9.2.4 Quality Assurance Institute
Has a Certified Software Tester (CSTE) grade entirely devoted to testing. See www.softwarecertifications.com
9.3 Test Team Structures
9.3.1 Stage-Related
There are still some organizations which have special-to-phase validation and verification staff. The
justification given is that the systems being developed are so highly-specialized that there is more value

in having a specification reviewed (say) by a technical specialist, not responsible for its creation, than by
the tester who will use it.
The justification is wholly spurious. Systems needing to be specified by PhDs may need to be tested
by PhDs, but they need to be testers (with PhDs), not PhDs who have to be goaded into testing.
