"Manage Software Testing"

8.5.8 Approach
Describe the overall strategy and approach to testing. For each major group features or feature combinations,
specify:
??? The approach which will ensure that these feature groups are adequately tested, in sufficient detail
to identify the major testing tasks.
??? The major activities, techniques, and tools to be used to test the designated groups of features.
??? The minimum degree of comprehensiveness desired, identifying the techniques to be used to judge
the comprehensiveness of the testing effort (for example, determining which statements have been
executed at least once).
??? Any additional completion criteria (for example, bug frequency).
??? Any overall criteria to be used to determine whether the test unit has passed or failed testing.
??? The techniques to be used to trace requirements.
Identify major constraints on testing such as test-time availability, testing resource availability, and
deadlines.
8.5.9 Suspension Criteria and Resumption Requirements
Table 8.3 contains boilerplate text for a test approach. Specify the criteria used to suspend all or a portion
of the testing activity on the test items associated with this plan. Specify by name or by role the persons
with the authority to halt the system tests. Specify the testing activities which should be repeated, when
testing is resumed. This will usually be specified in terms of:
1. A number of bugs of a certain severity being encountered (see Figure 8.
