Risk Management
35
Example 3.
A project has all its testing off-shored in another continent. There is a threat that the test
results are not provided in a timely manner, and are of insufficient quality due to cultural and
time-zone differences. There is a plan to collocate the testers with the developers in three months
time. The risk exposure thus lasts until the developers and testers are on the same site, and have
minimal cultural, and time-zone differences.
(Counter)
Example 4.
An ejector seat will only be used once. The probability of its being used per
1000 flight hours in peacetime is low. In wartime it is quite high. The threat against which it is
designed (an uncontrollable aircraft) is thus exposed very rarely. The probability of it being
needed when such a threat is present is 1.
