"Manage Software Testing"

18. Safety staff manage all safety-related aspects of the system and need to be sure that safety-critical
bits are tested with sufficient rigor. They too have to interact with assessment bodies in preparing
the safety case. They will typically review test specifications and recommend tests. They report to
the safety assurance manager.
19. Security manager is in charge of all the security aspects of the organization, its products (if any),
and operations. He will call on the services of the test team on occasions. He will normally be in
charge of planning and executing security-related matters including penetration testing.
20. Suppliers interface with most of the other parties. Their relations with the test manager and test
group can become fraught since test staff are the persons most likely to identify embarrassing
flaws in the suppliers??™ work. Their relations with the quality assurance manager and staff may also
become problematic should audits identify problems. The suppliers??™ reaction may be to cast doubt
on the test group??™s ability.
21. Support desk staff are the heroes and heroines who have to deal with the customers with the
problems which the test group should have found. They will typically deal with most of them
themselves (???Well, have you tried switching it on????) but the real bugs will come your way. The ratio
of bugs which are referred for patches by the Support desk to the number of bugs found while
testing is a measure of your success.
