He assures the process whereby
the system is required, designed, built, tested, installed, and handed over. He has nothing to do
with either reviewing, or testing but acts as the channel whereby any serious quality concerns can
be revealed to senior management as required by ISO 9000. He or his staff audit the project and
its facilities.
15. Quality assurance representative reports to the quality assurance manager and is responsible for
assuring the quality of the processes by signing off the quality plan ??” and thus implicitly any
separate test plans ??” and auditing the project against the quality system. He has no responsibility
for testing, or reviewing. He must be satisfied that all the quality controls on the project are
satisfactory and will thus be particularly concerned with such issues as reviews, testing, and
configuration management.

16. Requirements manager manages the acquisition, maintenance, modeling, integration, documentation,
and review of requirements. The project manager or design authority often holds this role.
On occasion it has been the test manager??™s job.
17. Safety assurance manager is in charge of safety. He will assure the safety management system as
required by whatever safety standard the project follows. He will often report both to the project??™s
line management, and to an Independent Safety Advisor who is independent of the project, and
probably of the company.
