set of tasks. Confi guring the policies is straightforward; defi ning the policy, however,
is not trivial. It is important to understand the requirements of the target environments.
Consider elements such as:
?– Corporate policy
?– User type
?– User environment
?– Administration model
We??™ll take a look at how these elements can affect administration as we take a look
at Policy management and creation.
Creating a New Policy
Creating a policy is performed in the Policy Management tab in the Forefront Client
Security console. Once you click New Policy you??™ll be presented with a tabbed
confi guration dialog. Click through the dialog to set the policy to meet your requirements.
The fi rst tab you??™ll see is the General tab; after fi lling in the name and description of
the tab click the Protection tab.
Protection Tab
The Protection tab allows you to confi gure what malware protection is turned on,
to schedule full scans, and to confi gure the interval for the Security state assessment
(see Figure 4.3).
Observing and Maintaining Microsoft Forefront Clients ??? Chapter 4 177
When confi guring these options you should consider the clients who will receive
this policy. For instance if you confi gure the client to run a full scan, make sure it is
not during peak times. This could impact the performance of the machine and cause
users to experience general system slowdown.
