"The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS): Session Control and Other Network Operations"

For example
if a session is changed to add another subscriber, there could be another chargeable
event created and forwarded to the CDF. This would eventually be correlated with
all of the other chargeable events for the entire session, and correlated into a CDR (or
sent as individual CDRs, depending on implementation).
Online As mentioned earlier, online charging is a prepaid service, where the subscriber
establishes an account and an account balance, and that balance is charged each time

a service is used. When the account has become depleted, the subscriber must deposit
additional monies into the account prior to receiving any additional services.
This means that the network entities must be able to communicate with the prepaid
billing system to determine the account balance and ensure services are not delivered
when the account has become depleted. The DIAMETER protocol is used for this
function.
Credit-control-request is used for online charging (see Table 7.3). The CCR message
is sent by the network element to the OCS prior to service delivery. This is the message
sent to request account balance information based on the service requested by the
subscriber. The rating function within the online charging system (OCS) is responsible
for providing rate information for each event.
