The CDF may elect to
close a CDR and forward it on based on certain events, such as a volume limit, time
limit, or implementation-specific limits.
???Partial??? CDRs may be used and made available to other applications in the OSS/BSS
for real-time monitoring of a call, depending on how charging is implemented in the
network. If a CDR is closed and the session is still in progress, then another CDR will
be created for the session. This too would have to be correlated and combined with the
other CDRs by the applications in the back office.
The partial CDRs may not contain all of the information for the session. Certainly the
first CDR would be a full CDR, containing all of the pertinent information for the session,
but subsequent CDRs may only contain changes that occurred during the session,
rather than repeating all of the information made available in previous CDRs.
The CGF or the billing system can then be provisioned to accept the partial CDRs
and correlate them into one record. This will depend on a number of factors, especially
Online and Offline Charging in the IMS 175
the architecture. If the CDF and the CGF are combined, then it is most likely that the
CDRs would have to be correlated and combined by the billing system.
Partial CDRs are often required for real-time applications such as fraud management
systems and revenue assurance applications.
